Disability Calculator
The VA ssigns you a disability rating based on the severity of your service-connected condition. They use your disability rating to determine how much disability compensation you’ll receive each month, as well as your eligibility for other VA benefits.
If you have multiple disability ratings, they use them to calculate your combined VA disability rating. Calculating your combined disability rating involves more than adding up your individual ratings. That’s why your combined rating may be different from the sum of your individual ratings. This is also known as “VA Math”.
One of the major misconceptions is that combined simply means added together, which is not true as the VA uses what is known as a combined ratings table. This means that a person’s efficiency is determined first by the most disabling—or highest individually rated condition—and then by less disabling conditions ranked in order of severity.
You can use the disability calculator on the VA website at: https://www.va.gov/disability/about-disability-ratings/
Burn Pit registration
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry, referred to as the “Burn Pit Registry” or “the registry”, is a critical tool that is advancing research through combining Veteran and service member data. The registry enables VA to identify and research health challenges of Veterans and service members who were exposed to airborne hazards and burn pits during their military service. Over time, the knowledge gained through this research will be used to fuel advancements in treatments, more precise predictive medicine, inform decisions related to presumptive conditions, and deliver targeted proactive and preventative care.
While participation in the registry does not impact an individual’s care or benefits, Veterans and service members who participate are helping to improve the care and benefits for generations of Veterans and service members to come.
On August 1, 2024, the VA and U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) announced critical updates to the registry including: the broadening of participation criteria; clear opt-out procedures; and automatic inclusion procedures based on DOD records that vastly expand the number of participating Veterans and service members.
MPORTANT NOTE TO VETERANS: Participation in the registry is optional and has no impact on, nor will it determine eligibility for VA health care and benefits.
Veterans seeking more information or who would like to file a claim under the PACT Act, please visit VA.gov/PACT or call 1-800-698-2411 for assistance.
Those who wish to opt out of participation can complete this online form.
Pact Act
The PACT Act is a law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. This law helps us provide generations of Veterans—and their survivors—with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. And starting March 5, 2024, we’re expanding VA health care to millions of Veterans—years earlier than called for by the PACT Act.
This page will help answer your questions about what the PACT Act means for you or your loved ones. You can also call us at 800-698-2411 (TTY: 711). And you can file a claim for PACT Act-related disability compensation or apply for VA health care now.
