Consultation & Education Services
We would love the opportunity to speak to your business, organization, or group about increasing mental health awareness. Our team consists of passionate and knowledgeable staff members who are eager to share information about the services we offer as well as general mental health topics tailored to meet your unique needs.
Mental Health First Aid
Be prepared to support those around you by getting certified in Mental Health First Aid. Mental Health First Aid teaches the skills needed to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, as well as how to provide someone with initial support until they are connected with appropriate professional help. In the course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies to help someone in both crisis and noncrisis situations, and where to turn for help.
Some of the topics covered during the class:
-Depression and mood disorders
-Anxiety disorders
-Trauma
-Psychosis
-Substance Use disorders
Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency – the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well.
ICHD currently provides MHFA multipe times a year. We are able to teach Adult MHFA and Youth MHFA.
The Adult Mental Health First Aid course is appropriate for anyone age 18 and older who wants to learn how to help a person who may be experiencing a mental health related crisis or problem.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is primarily intended for adults to learn how to help young people experiencing mental health challenges or crises. It reviews the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents ages 12-18 and emphasizes the importance of early intervention.
School-based Services
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in six youth experience mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression. However, only half of these individuals receive the necessary mental health services. Untreated childhood depression can persist into adulthood, with only 50% of pediatric major depression cases being diagnosed in a timely manner.
School-based mental health services can improve access to care, allow for early identification and treatment of mental health issues, and may be linked to reduced absenteeism and better mental health outcomes.
ICHD partners with local school districts to provide onsite mental health services directly within the schools. By integrating our services into the school environment, we can more effectively address and reduce internalized behaviors such as anxiety and depression, as well as externalized behaviors like aggression and disruptive conduct. This comprehensive approach ensures that students receive timely and accessible care, fostering a healthier and more supportive school community.
