Community Based Children’s Services
When a child is diagnosed as Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED), they possess a mental health condition that substantially disrupts them from functioning academically, emotionally, and socially. In order to determine if your child qualifies for CBS, one of our Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP) will complete an assessment and determine eligibility.
The State of Kansas has an SED waiver program. This waiver is specific to the state of Kansas and is for Kansas children who have been diagnosed with an SED qualifying diagnosis. There are specific criteria that must be met for a child to qualify for this waiver. However, the purpose of this waiver is to provide special intensive support to help children who qualify remain in their homes and communities. Parents and children are actively involved in planning for all services.
Children are cared for by our Case Managers (CM), Attendant Care (AC), Targeted Case Managers (TCM), and Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) providers. Our CBS services can be offered in the home, school, and community settings, in any of our four counties. For more information about our CBS program and services or the SED waiver program, please contact CBS Director, Cathy Martinez at 620-723-2272.
SED Waiver
The SED waiver provides children with some mental health conditions, special intensive support to help them remain in their homes and communities.
The SED Waiver is based on the financial and clinical eligibility of the child, while providing a state medical card and the ability to access extensive mental health services to help the child remain in his/her home and community. These services include, but are not limited to:
- Case management
- Individual and family therapy
- Psychiatric/medication management
- Psychosocial group
- Attendant care
- Parent Support
- Independent living skills training
These programs are therapeutic in nature, with the goal of helping SED youth develop the social and interpersonal skills necessary for success in his/her home, school and community. Our main objective is to reintegrate youth back into community activities, no longer needing the support of our program.
